Adventure Cycling: Cycle Utah ride in SW Utah, September 2003

The ride was 318 miles over 6 days with a total elevation gain of 17,910 feet. Except for in the vicinity of St. George, the daytime temperatures were in the 60s & 70s and the nighttime temperatures were in the 30s & 40s, except for the night in Panguitch when it dropped into the high 20s. My Polar A-5 heart rate monitor calculated that I burned about 5500 Calories on several of our 63 mile days with steep climbs and that, during those climbs, I was burning about 1000 Calories/hour! That's serious exercise. This is a challenging and beautiful ride.
