A Sunday afternoon bike ride in May - this was a 48 mile training ride with lots of hills, wind, some rain, etc.:

  • Riding out Higby Road toward Roller Coaster Road; the hills are short but at 15% grade. This is yuppieland with trophy houses, trophy cars, and, I suppose, even some trophy wives; are these people any happier surrounded by all this shit than the rest of us? I doubt it; I wouldn't trade my lifestyle and small house in a working class neighborhood in the town of Monument for any of this.
  • County Line Road on the way to Palmer Lake; 12% grade.
  • Pastoral scene north of County Line Road into Douglas County.
  • I stopped at O'Malley's Pub in the town of Palmer Lake for a cold one; it's a well known biker bar.

  • My son Jake had been hiking near Palmer Lake and came up to O'Malley's to have dinner with me.

    • Monument Creek from the Santa Fe trail; I bicycle down this way frequently; it's very scenic and pleasant.

    Whizzing on the site of the coming Walmart; I was out on my bicycle and had to go; as everyone knows, when you gotta go, you gotta go!
